Congratulations to Ms. Erin Kolk for being named the Air and Space Forces Association, (AFA) chapter #147, STEM Teacher of the Year! Ms. Kolk teaches 7th-grade Science and STEAM at OPA Middle School.
Ms. Kolk was recognized for her achievement during the May 15, 2024, Board of Directors meeting. Ms. Maggie Burdette, Middle School Chancellor, celebrated Ms. Kolk by saying “Ms. Kolk employs innovative teaching methods that inspire curiosity and critical thinking in students. From using robots like Ozobots and Raspberry Pi to teaching about hydraulic systems and earthquake engineering, she creates immersive learning experiences that spark interest and deepens understanding. For example, she recently challenged students to design and 3D print a bulldozer to fit around an Ozobot, integrating coding skills with hands-on engineering.”.
STEM teachers shape the future of our nation by introducing students to exciting new concepts and offering a glimpse into what’s possible. The Air & Space Force Association believes that recognizing those who educate America’s youth is an important aspect of what AFA is all about. Every year, AFA’s Teacher of the Year program sponsored by Rolls-Royce proudly honors the commitment and achievements of these extraordinary teachers.
